Screening of Boundless Screen, Encouraging an Inclusive Film Ecosystem

Jakarta, July 23, 2026 – The Boundless Screen program initiated by the Happyself Harmony Family Foundation provides a creative space for children, including those with special needs, to learn and create through film. The event, held in the environment of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, is part of efforts to build a more inclusive film ecosystem and provide equal opportunities for every child to develop their potential.

The Director General of Development, Utilization, and Cultural Guidance of the Ministry of Culture, Ahmad Mahendra, M.Tr.A.P., in his speech stated that film not only serves as an art form and part of the creative industry but also as an educational medium that can broaden perspectives, enhance literacy, and open new viewpoints for society.

"Film also provides broader knowledge and inspires as a medium that informs us all," Mahendra said.

He emphasized that the development of the film ecosystem needs to be comprehensive by embracing all elements, from industry, art, to aspects of inclusivity. According to him, diversity is a strength that must be continuously supported so that every individual has an equal opportunity to participate and develop their potential.

"To build the film ecosystem, we must view it broadly and embrace everything, whether film as an industry, film as art, or film as a space for inclusivity," he said.

The Boundless Screen program is a tangible manifestation of that commitment. During the program, participants receive comprehensive learning about the film production process, from story idea development, scriptwriting, directing, visual concept creation, blocking, production breakdown, scheduling, location determination, costume design, basics of cinematography, artistic direction, moodboard creation, to the editing process.

All of this material is then applied directly through a collaborative film production process. Participants work together in every stage of production until they complete the shooting process in one day and produce a work that is screened at the event.

Mahendra appreciates the organization of this program as it is deemed capable of opening wider access for all participants to get to know the world of film while gaining a comprehensive learning experience.

"This program provides equal opportunities to get to know the world of film and receive comprehensive training," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Empowerment, Child Protection, and Population Control Agency (PPAPP) of DKI Jakarta Province, Dr. Dwi Oktavia Tatri Handayani, M.Epid., emphasized that every child has the same right to grow, receive protection, learn, and develop their potential, including children with special needs.

According to her, children with special needs do not require pity but rather equal opportunities to create, learn, and participate in community life.

"Every child has the right to grow, receive protection, and have equal opportunities to develop their potential," she stated.

She added that the spirit of this program aligns with efforts to realize Jakarta as an inclusive and child-friendly global city. The progress of a city, she said, is not only measured by physical development or economic growth but also by its ability to ensure that every child receives the same rights to learn, create, participate, and develop.

Through Boundless Screen, participants not only learn to make films but also develop skills in collaboration, communication, problem-solving, and building self-confidence. The diversity of physical and sensory conditions enriches the creative process while strengthening the values of humanity in every work produced.

The activities continued with the screening of films created by the participants and a talk show session titled "Works for Arya" and "Signals". These films are the result of the entire learning process that participants have gone through, from idea development, scriptwriting, pre-production, production, to post-production.

The organization of the Boundless Screen Screening demonstrates that film can be a medium that transcends various boundaries of difference. Through collaboration between the government, foundations, communities, schools, families, and various other partners, this program opens space for the emergence of new talents in the field of film while strengthening the values of inclusivity in the cultural ecosystem.

The Ministry of Culture hopes that similar initiatives can continue to develop, not only in the field of film but also in various other cultural sectors, such as performing arts, music, literature, and various cultural expressions. With ongoing collaboration, it is hoped that more spaces will open for all communities to learn, create, and participate equally in advancing Indonesian culture.
