Watching, Understanding, and Caring for Culture Through Indonesiana TV

In an effort to promote cultural advancement in the digital era, the Cultural Media Center (BMK) continues to present various content-based innovations. In line with the mandate of Law Number 5 of 2017 on Cultural Advancement, which emphasizes the importance of educating the nation's life, BMK takes strategic steps through the digitization of cultural objects to be widely accessible to the public.

Amid the increasingly adaptive digital media transformation that changes patterns of interaction and information consumption into all-digital formats, BMK presents Indonesiana TV as a cultural channel that gathers a variety of cultural content from the archipelago. This platform not only serves as a learning space but also as a means of reflection on the richness of the nation's culture.

In commemoration of National Film Day 2026, BMK initiated the Indonesiana TV Screen activity, a program for watching selected films together (nobar) packaged with interactive discussions. This activity is part of a strategic effort to strengthen the film ecosystem while expanding public access to educational cultural content.

The Indonesiana TV Screen activity was held in two cities in Central Java Province, namely Pekalongan City on April 9, 2026, at Transmart Pekalongan XXI and Batang Regency on April 10, 2026, at Platinum Cineplex Batang. This program involved hundreds of participants from various backgrounds, including students, teachers, and cultural and film communities.

In Pekalongan City, 148 participants attended the screening of the film Benteng Duurstede, which tells the emotional journey of a character tracing historical footprints in Saparua. This film not only presents a personal narrative about relationships and past wounds but also enriches the audience's understanding of the values of history and Indonesia's cultural heritage.

Meanwhile, in Batang Regency, the event was attended by 140 participants with the screening of the animated film Komarong. This film tells the story of a brave girl named Komang who embarks on an adventure across the temples of the archipelago with Barong, a mystical creature that has lost its powers. These powers are scattered in pieces of gold that must be collected again. In their journey, they race against time to prevent the awakening of Kalageni, a dark force threatening the balance of the world. Through a light visual approach, this film conveys a strong cultural message, especially for the younger generation. Both films will soon be released and can be watched on the Indonesiana TV platform.

The series of activities were packaged interactively, starting from the opening, film screening, talk show with filmmakers, directors, and cultural and film observers, a Q&A session, and ending with documentation together. The talk show that took place after the film screening became a dialogue space that brought together perspectives between the speakers and the audience, while also opening discussions on cultural issues raised in the film.

Through this activity, BMK not only provides entertainment but also builds a space for appreciation and education. Film as an audio-visual medium has proven effective in conveying cultural values, history, and national identity, especially to the younger generation.

Furthermore, this activity also serves as a platform for cross-sector collaboration involving units of the Ministry of Culture, educational institutions, and communities. This synergy is expected to enhance the public's audio-visual literacy while fostering a collective awareness to love, understand, and care for Indonesian culture sustainably.
