Preserving Historical Literacy, Kemendikbudristek Launches 5 Monologue Shows and Scripts at the Edge of History

JAKARTA — The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) through the Directorate of Film, Music, and Media, Directorate General of Culture, in collaboration with Indonesiana TV, Titimangsa, and KawanKawan Media, launched five monologue series "At the Edge of History" season three on Tuesday, June 28, 2024, at CGV FX Sudirman, Senayan, Jakarta.
Before its release, the third season monologue was staged at the Monologue Festival at Salihara Theater in December 2023. The producers of this event are Happy Salma, Yulia Evina Bhara, and Pradetya Novitri. In addition to the monologue shows, an anthology book of scripts "At the Edge of History Three Seasons" (2021, 2022, 2023) was also launched, edited by Ahda Imran and published by Kepustakaan Kompas Gramedia.
"At the Edge of History" is a monologue series that tells the stories of lesser-known historical figures who played important roles in Indonesian history. This series offers a new perspective on Indonesian history.
The third season features the story of Oto Iskandar Dinata from the perspective of his wife, Raden Ajeng Soekirah; female fighter Ruhana Kuddus; diplomat Francisca Casparina who struggled post-independence; artist Tan Tjeng Bok who survived through three eras; and national press figure, Tirto Adhi Soerjo.
The Director of Film, Music, and Media at Kemendikbudristek, Ahmad Mahendra, stated that "At the Edge of History" serves as a medium for literacy and education for the public, especially the younger generation. "There are many inspiring stories that were previously less known. This monologue invites young people to rediscover history that has almost been forgotten," he said.
Happy Salma added that over the past three years, they have highlighted the stories of 14 Indonesian figures who have colored history in their own ways. “This is expected to inspire the younger generation to contribute to Indonesia,” she said.
Another producer, Yulia Evina Bhara, also added that in addition to presenting monologues, they also launched the anthology book of scripts "At the Edge of History Three Seasons." "There are 14 short-duration monologue scripts that are expected to be staged by various parties, both artists and school students,” Yulia concluded.[*]
