Indonesiana.TV's Commitment to Advancing Local IP and Elevating Indonesian Culture to the Global Stage

JAKARTA - Indonesiana.TV demonstrates a strong commitment to advancing local intellectual property (IP) through various initiatives that support local creators. In various supportive activities, Indonesiana.TV serves as an initial platform for industry players to popularize Indonesian culture with digital technology. This includes animated films such as Rana Uko, Desa Timun, Ako and Laut, and Hip-Hip Kido, which are the result of IP development collaborations between Indonesiana.TV and local creators. 

Additionally, there is a support program touted by Indonesiana.TV as an effort to develop local IP, namely the Open Call for Children's Animated Screen Indonesiana.TV (LAAI). In this program, content creators are given the opportunity and support to develop IP with guidance from professionals in the animation field.

The Head of Creation, Production, and Program Acquisition at Indonesiana.TV, Chandra Endroputro, stated that in acquiring local IP, Indonesiana.TV considers several key factors. "We pay attention to the originality of the story, relevance to local culture and values, potential to attract audience interest, and the essence of Indonesian-ness," he said. 

Quality of materials such as scripts, characters, and visuals are also a primary concern. In addition, Chandra emphasized the importance of a shared vision between the IP owners and Indonesiana.TV regarding quality and message delivery.

With these efforts, Chandra hopes to bring Indonesian culture and stories to the global stage through IP, enriching the local creative industry, and opening new opportunities for local creators. Indonesia has great potential as a source of engaging content. Strong, original, and unique local cultural content can highlight cultural diversity and inclusion.

The collaboration between the public and Indonesiana.TV as a facilitator becomes a joint platform for developing local culture into IP products that positively impact the cultural ecosystem. Indonesiana.TV continues to encourage and support local creators to develop their works into educational and entertaining shows for children.

In addition to production support, LAAI participants also undergo Technical Guidance (BimTek) to enrich and update their team's capacity in the production process.

A representative from Manimonki Studio, Dewi Novita Sari, whose studio passed the LAAI 2024 selection, shared her experience. "We are proud to be selected as participants in the LAAI open call. This opportunity allows us to develop new IP," she said. 

The director of the animated film "Rana Uko", Daryl Wilson, stated that Indonesian cultural content has great potential to be developed into high-value IP. 

"Through synergy and collaboration, we can create an ecosystem that supports the sustainability of local culture," he explained. Daryl also shared his experience collaborating with Indonesiana.TV, which fully supported the production process of his film.

According to Daryl, the collaboration with Indonesiana.TV was also formed with the same vision, namely to elevate Indonesian cultural content through media with the latest technology. The film Rana Uko, Daryl continued, aims to showcase the diverse cultures found in Jambi. 

“Before making this film, we conducted quite in-depth research, including to the Muara Jambi temple complex, to find out what kind of story packaging would be interesting to highlight from Jambi's culture,” Daryl explained.

As for the presentation of the animated film Rana Uko, Daryl said it is the result of a long process with a commitment to present entertaining shows that are rich in history and culture.

In line with Daryl, the creator of the cultural animated series "Ako dan Laut", Tessar Wardhana, stated that collaboration and technological support can introduce local culture to the international stage. "Initiatives like Indonesiana.TV and their open call program provide space for creators to innovate and elevate Indonesian culture," he said. 

The series "Ako dan Laut" highlights the "Laor" tradition from Maluku, which teaches the preservation of marine nature. According to Tessar, IP works that elevate local culture need to be preserved and enhanced. Indonesia's IP wealth is abundant, and with optimal utilization, this country can become a leader in the global creative economy.
