The Cultural Media Center (BMK) has expressed its support for the organization of Jakarta Culture Cinema 2026, a short film festival aimed at creating a platform for promoting cultural advancement objects from both abroad and domestically, particularly focusing on the cultural advancement of Jakarta. This initiative is part of efforts to expand the space for cultural expression through creative audiovisual mediums.

Organized by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government in collaboration with the Kampung Sinema Budaya Foundation, Jakarta Culture Cinema serves as an ecosystem that encourages the growth of filmmakers, especially the younger generation, in transforming cultural wealth into relevant and competitive film works. The Chairman of the Kampung Sinema Foundation, Ade Maulana Sidik, stated that Jakarta Culture Cinema is designed as a strategic platform for cultural activists and film communities.

“We want to create a space where the cultural advancement objects of Jakarta can be transformed into audiovisual works that are not only strong in identity but also have global competitiveness,” he said during the kickoff ceremony held at Taman Ismail Marzuki, Jakarta.

In its implementation, Jakarta Culture Cinema 2026 presents three main programs, namely:

1. Jakarta Culture Cinema Fund (JCC Fund)

This program is a funding scheme as well as coaching for cultural practitioners and film communities residing in DKI Jakarta. Participants will have the opportunity to attend coaching clinics and production assistance to produce short films themed on the cultural advancement of Betawi. From all submitted proposals, the jury will select the 10 best works to receive production support.

2. Jakarta Culture Cinema Theater (JCC Theater)

This program serves as a space for appreciation of short films that have passed curation but have not been nominated for awards in the festival. In addition to film screenings, this event will also be enlivened with art performances such as dance, regional music, and local band performances. The JCC Theater is planned to be present in public spaces scattered across five cities and one district in the DKI Jakarta area, while also featuring a culinary bazaar showcasing Betawi specialties.

3. Jakarta Culture Cinema Fest (JCC Fest) 2026

As the culmination of the series of activities, JCC Fest is a short film competition open to both national and international filmmakers. This festival serves as a promotional platform for cultural advancement objects from various regions in Indonesia and the world through cinematic works. The peak of the festival will take place over two days and will be covered by Indonesiana TV.

The launch of Jakarta Culture Cinema 2026 was symbolically marked by the cutting of a dongkal cake, representing the richness of Betawi culinary traditions and the spirit of collaboration in advancing culture.

Through its support for Jakarta Culture Cinema, the Cultural Media Center reaffirms its commitment to strengthening the media-based cultural advancement ecosystem. This festival is expected not only to be a space for appreciation but also to serve as a bridge for Indonesian cultural works to be recognized more widely at both national and international levels.
