Appreciation of Indonesian Cultural Heritage 2024: Celebrating the Richness of the Archipelago
JAKARTA – The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenbud RI) successfully held the Appreciation of Indonesian Cultural Heritage 2024 event with the theme of Archipelago Cultural Space. The event, which took place on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at the Fatahillah Park, Old Town Jakarta, served as a tribute to those who have contributed to the preservation and promotion of Indonesian culture.
The Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, expressed his pride and respect for all parties who have dedicated themselves to preserving the nation's cultural heritage. "Cultural heritage is not just a relic of the past, but an invaluable asset that represents the identity and character of the nation," said Fadli Zon.
He added that Indonesian culture is a national treasure that reflects noble values such as togetherness, mutual cooperation, and respect for diversity.
This event also reaffirmed the government's commitment to advancing culture, in line with the establishment of the Ministry of Culture under President Prabowo Subianto's administration. Based on Law Number 5 of 2017 on Cultural Advancement and Law Number 11 of 2010 on Cultural Heritage, the government continues to strive to protect, develop, and utilize Indonesia's cultural wealth.
Achievements Towards UNESCO
Fadli Zon announced that Indonesia is proposing Reog Ponorogo, Kolintang, and Kebaya to UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in December 2024. To date, Indonesia has 13 cultural heritages recognized by UNESCO, and this number continues to grow each year through a stringent selection process by experts and academics.
"Every year, hundreds of cultural objects and expressions are registered at the national level. This shows how rich and diverse our culture is," he explained.
Fadli Zon also appreciated the community, academics, artists, and the younger generation who actively promote culture through various media such as digital platforms, film, and international collaborations.
The empowerment programs for cultural villages and indigenous communities in various corners of the country continue to be strengthened to ensure the sustainability of cultural preservation. According to Fadli Zon, Indonesian culture is not only able to survive but also thrive amidst the challenges of the modern era.
"This is proof that our culture remains relevant and continues to be a source of inspiration today," he stated.
The Appreciation of Indonesian Cultural Heritage 2024 event is expected to be a moment of reflection as well as inspiration to continue preserving and celebrating the beauty of the archipelago's cultural heritage.
