27th AMI Awards: Celebrating New Generation Music and Innovation in the Digital Era
JAKARTA - The 27th Anugerah Musik Indonesia (AMI) Awards is set to take place on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at Ciputra Artpreneur, Jakarta. Carrying the theme "New Generation Music", this year's event serves as a platform to celebrate youthful spirit, innovation, and diversity in the ever-evolving Indonesian music industry.
“For 27 years, the AMI Awards has been the highest honor for Indonesian musicians. This event not only celebrates their contributions but also creates an inclusive music ecosystem, explores the potential of the younger generation, and carves out cultural identity through inspiring works,” appreciated the Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon.
He added that Minister Fadli highlighted the significant transformation in the Indonesian music industry, particularly the shift from physical releases to digital platforms. According to him, this change not only alters the way people enjoy music but also opens new opportunities for young musicians to perform on national and international stages.
“Currently, the streaming sector contributes more than 90 percent of total music revenue in Indonesia. This shift paves the way for the emergence of new talents from various corners of the archipelago, while also expanding their stage to the international arena,” he added.
This year's AMI Awards demonstrates a commitment to musical diversity by adding new categories such as Elektro Dangdut, Koplo, Alternative Jazz, Alternative Soul R&B, Orchestra, and Film Scoring. Minister Fadli mentioned that these categories reflect the innovation of Indonesian musicians who continue to produce fresh and relevant works.
“These new categories are a form of recognition for the rapidly growing creativity in the Indonesian music industry, as well as a tribute to genres that may have previously received less attention,” he explained.
The Minister of Culture also emphasized the government's support for the music ecosystem through intellectual property rights protection, cross-sector collaboration, and culture-based innovation. According to him, music has the power to unite the nation. "Indonesian music must be an inspiration, a driver of unity, and a symbol of pride on the world stage,” he stated.
62 Award Categories at the Peak Night of AMI 2024
At the peak night of the 27th AMI Awards, 62 award categories and five special awards will be announced, divided into two sessions. A total of 50 categories will be announced in the afternoon session, while 12 main categories and special awards will be presented in the evening.
This press conference was also attended by several renowned musicians, producers, and music industry players who shared their hopes for this year's AMI Awards. With the theme “New Generation Music”, the 27th AMI Awards is expected to be a celebration of creativity, dynamics, and diversity in Indonesian music, while also reaffirming its position on the global stage.
